About Animal Lovers Pet Shop

I took over the Animal Lovers in June of 1987, which at the time was a full grooming facility for cats and dogs. The store did not have the exotic birds, we only carried wild finches, canaries and cockatiels as well as fish and reptiles.

In 1989 when the Palos Verdes Bird Farm closed, I agreed to take care of their customers and a handful of their birds. Embarking on a new journey of love.

Lacking experience in birds, I hired a few of their employees to help in the transition and have always been fortunate to have reliable and experienced avian specialists on staff. With their help and that of fellow breeders, I learned how to breed and hand feed finches to macaws. For approximately 10 years bred our own baby birds, along with purchasing them form local sources. While I no longer breed my own birds, I continue to hand feed, nurture and socialize baby birds from local reputable breeders.

In order to grow, the decision was made to phase out the dog and cat grooming and fish, to concentrate on birds and reptiles. At the same time we continue to carry food and supplies necessary for all animals. As time went by, I realized the need for a boarding facility for birds and reptiles. In 1997 I opened the Boarding area two doors down from the store with special emphasis on the health and security of the animals.

In a world which is becoming more impersonal, hurried and stressful, we provide our customers with a fun place to shop, where you will find a great selection of pet products at competitive prices and friendly, helpful staff to take care of you. We're big enough to carry a wide selection of pet products, but not so big that you can't find what you need. At Animal Lovers, you won't get lost in the crowd and you won't get an automated answering system when you call us. During store hours, you always talk to a "live person" every time you call.

We also believe that Animal Lovers has a responsibility to our community. Because we of all the unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats that are euthanized every day, we choose not to sell puppies and kittens. We encourage our customers to adopt cats and dogs from a local shelter, animal welfare group or to purchase one from a reputable breeder. Then come and see us at Animal Lovers, and let us help you take care of your newest "family member."

We hope you enjoy our website, and that you visit often. If you haven't stopped by our store yet, we invite you to come in and say hello BooBoo, Kimber, Spanky and Jabba our permanent resident birds. Oh, and don't be surprised to find our live-in cats Mindy and Mr. Wiggles. Our oldest kitty, Paisley, has passed away but is still with us in spirit.
